PELAKITA.ID — BANGKOK — The Faculty of Law at Hasanuddin University (FH Unhas) and the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand have begun discussions to strengthen academic cooperation through a range of initiatives, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research, scholarly publications, and collaborative academic programmes.
The FH Unhas delegation, led by Dean Prof. Dr. Hamzah Halim, SH., MH., MAP., was received by Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University, Assistant Professor Dr. Kanpirom Komalarajun, during a meeting in Bangkok on Wednesday (16 September).
Prof. Hamzah Halim expressed his appreciation for the warm reception extended by the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University. He said the visit provided an opportunity for FH Unhas to introduce its academic capacity while identifying areas of cooperation that could be jointly developed by the two institutions.
“We see this meeting as an opportunity to open broader avenues for collaboration, both in education and research. We hope these discussions can be followed by concrete academic programmes involving students and academics from both universities,” Prof. Hamzah said.
Dr. Kanpirom likewise welcomed the visit by the FH Unhas delegation and the openness of both institutions to building closer academic ties.
She said the meeting provided an opportunity for the two faculties to better understand each other’s academic strengths and areas of expertise, while discussing forms of cooperation that could be translated into concrete programmes.
“This meeting gives us an opportunity to learn more about the Faculty of Law at Hasanuddin University and explore areas of cooperation that we can develop together. We are open to building collaboration that allows students and academics from both faculties to learn from one another and exchange knowledge,” Dr. Kanpirom said.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several potential academic cooperation schemes, including student exchange, joint research and publications, faculty exchange, visiting professors, guest lectures, seminars, and joint academic programmes.
These initiatives could broaden the academic experiences of students and faculty members by providing opportunities to engage with different educational environments, scholarly traditions, and legal perspectives in Indonesia and Thailand.
In the field of education, student exchange emerged as one of the key opportunities discussed. Under such a scheme, students from FH Unhas and Chulalongkorn University could participate in academic activities at partner institutions while gaining insights into the legal perspectives of two countries with different legal systems and social contexts.
The proposed collaboration also extends to joint research and scholarly publications. The two faculties could develop research on cross-border legal issues, particularly matters relevant to Indonesia, Thailand, and the broader ASEAN region.
Such research cooperation could bring together the expertise of academics from both institutions while enriching perspectives on emerging and complex legal issues at the regional level.
Strengthening academic capacity was another area discussed during the meeting. Initiatives such as visiting professors, guest lectures, seminars, and other scholarly activities could expand opportunities for knowledge exchange, connect academic expertise, and create new research networks between the two faculties.
As a follow-up, the Dean of FH Unhas invited the Dean and the academic community of the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University to visit Hasanuddin University in Makassar.
The proposed visit would provide an opportunity to deepen the discussions held in Bangkok and formulate more concrete collaborative programmes that could subsequently be implemented by both faculties.
The exploration of cooperation between FH Unhas and Chulalongkorn University also contributes to strengthening academic connectivity in the field of law across ASEAN. Student mobility, faculty exchanges, knowledge sharing, and joint research could expand scholarly interaction while bringing together legal perspectives from Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries in the region.
