MARITIMEPOSTS.COM – The Graduate School of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has officially launched the Catalyst Program through a five-day Literature Review Instructor Training and Catalyst Program Coordination session, held from Monday to Friday, August 24–28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA), at the Meeting Room, GB 2 Building, 2nd Floor, Graduate School of Unhas.
The training is attended by 20 lecturers from the Graduate School of Unhas, who are being equipped with the skills to develop structured and systematic literature reviews.
The participants are being trained by two internal instructors who previously completed similar training organized by the Unhas Directorate of Publication Management (DMP). This ensures that the competencies transferred remain aligned with standards and mechanisms established at the university level.
Following the training, the 20 lecturers will return to their respective study programs to mentor Graduate School students in preparing and writing scientific publications.
The mentoring will specifically target first-semester students, allowing the publication-writing process to begin at the earliest stage of their studies and proceed systematically toward producing manuscripts ready for submission to international journals.
The Catalyst Program is an initiative of the Unhas Directorate of Publication Management (DMP), designed as a structured program to increase both the quantity and quality of scientific publications produced by students and lecturers.
Within the Graduate School, the program is coordinated by the Publication Management Unit (PMU) as part of efforts to accelerate the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (IKU) in research, particularly in the area of publications in reputable international journals.
Dean of the Unhas Graduate School, Prof. Sukri Palutturi, SKM., M.Kes., M.Sc.PH., Ph.D., said in his opening remarks that the program represents the first stage of a broader effort to strengthen the culture of research and academic publication within the Graduate School.
Lecturers who have completed the training are expected to subsequently serve as instructors and mentors for students in their respective study programs, particularly first-semester students. This approach is intended to establish consistency in mechanisms, targets, mentoring stages, and publication-output monitoring from the beginning of students’ academic journey.
“We want learning processes in courses related to international journals and scientific publications to no longer focus merely on completing coursework, but to genuinely produce tangible outputs in the form of literature review manuscripts that are ready, and even submitted, to the targeted international journals,” Prof. Sukri said.
Importantly, the Dean’s commitment goes beyond moral support.
Prof. Sukri, together with the leadership of the Unhas Graduate School, has agreed to provide research and publication enhancement grants for all lecturers and heads of study programs within the Graduate School who successfully complete the manuscript drafting process through to submission to international journals.
The incentive scheme is expected to provide a concrete motivation for lecturers to complete the literature review process in a gradual and structured manner, beginning with topic selection, development of literature-search strategies, article selection and analysis, manuscript preparation, finalization, and submission to the targeted journals.
The training was also attended by the Vice Dean, Chair and Secretary of the Study Program and Research Quality Assurance Group (GPMPR), Head of Administration, and Heads of Subsections within the Unhas Graduate School.
Their participation reflects the full support of the institution’s leadership for the implementation of the Catalyst Program.
Through this initiative, the Unhas Graduate School hopes students will become accustomed to writing scientific publications from their first semester under the guidance of competent lecturers.
At the same time, the program is expected to contribute directly to the achievement of research-related Key Performance Indicators (IKU), particularly in scientific publications, while further strengthening Unhas’ position on the international academic publication landscape.
