MARITIMEPOSTS.COM – The 43rd anniversary (Dies Natalis) of the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Hasanuddin (FKG Unhas) marks a long journey of dedication in producing outstanding human resources in the field of health.
Congratulatory messages and appreciation have come from various parties, including the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health Unhas, Sukri Palutturi, Prof. Dr., SKM, M.Kes., M.Sc.PH., Ph.D.
In his statement, Prof. Sukri expressed pride in the achievements of FKG Unhas, which has surpassed four decades of service. According to him, this journey is not merely about age, but a reflection of tangible contributions in producing professionals and actively improving public health in Indonesia.
He also highlighted the importance of this year’s theme, which emphasizes creativity as a form of spiritual expression that brings impact to the nation.
“This theme serves as a reminder that the development of knowledge must always be grounded in humanitarian values and integrity,” said Prof. Sukri.
Furthermore, he hopes that FKG Unhas will continue to be a pioneer in innovation in the field of dentistry, while maintaining its commitment to ethics and service.
According to him, this anniversary momentum should be interpreted as a reinforcement of the spirit to continue creating, expanding collaboration, and delivering broader positive impacts—not only nationally, but also globally.
“May FKG Unhas continue to thrive, inspire, and become a source of national pride,” he said.
Closing his remarks, he invited the entire academic community to strengthen solidarity and a sense of togetherness.
“Unhas united, my Unhas is strong. FKG Unhas moves forward—excellent and impactful,” he concluded.
About the History of FKG Unhas
Quoting from the official FKG Unhas website, the history of the faculty dates back to 1968.
A meeting was held between a team from the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), led by drg. Liem Tjing Kiat, along with drg. Halima Daeng Sikati, and the Rector of Unhas at the time, Lt. Col. Dr. M. Nasir Said, SH, to discuss the possibility of opening a dental education program at Hasanuddin University.
A cooperation agreement between Hasanuddin University and the Indonesian Navy was signed on January 23, 1969.
Based on the Rector’s Decree dated January 1, 1969, the Yos Sudarso Institute of Dentistry became the Department of Dentistry under the Faculty of Medicine at Hasanuddin University, further strengthened by the Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 0226 of 1970 dated July 27, 1970.
On June 8, 1974, a second cooperation agreement was signed between Hasanuddin University and the Indonesian Navy. The Department of Dentistry under the Faculty of Medicine continued to develop within the university structure.
Based on Rector Decree No. 91/0/02/83 dated February 22, 1983, and the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0563/0/1983 dated December 8, 1983, the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG Unhas) was officially established as an independent faculty within Hasanuddin University.
Since its establishment, the Faculty of Dentistry has been led by several deans:
