maritimeposts.com/ – The author participated in the NotebookLM Workshop for Media Professionals organized by the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) via the Teams platform.

The activity, attended by 40 participants both online and offline, was part of an effort to enhance journalists’ capacity to utilize artificial intelligence in supporting reporting, verification, and the production of more accurate and efficient journalistic content.

The workshop was part of the AAJA-Asia Training Network program, conducted in collaboration with the Google News Initiative (GNI). Since 2019, this training network has reached more than 5,500 journalists and media workers across 18 Asian countries through both in-person and online training sessions.

The program is supported by 32 certified trainers who are able to deliver training in English as well as 17 Asian languages, including Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin, Mongolian, Nepali, Vietnamese, Sinhala, Tagalog, Thai, and Urdu.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the use of NotebookLM as an AI-based research and document analysis tool.

The application enables journalists to process various document sources, summarize information, identify patterns, and formulate critical questions based on uploaded materials.

For media professionals, these capabilities are increasingly relevant amid the rapid flow of information and the demand for fast yet accurate news production.

The workshop is important for strengthening the quality of journalistic work, particularly in data management and broadening perspectives.

The integration of artificial intelligence technology is not merely a trend, but a strategic necessity for local media to remain competitive and credible in the digital era. The use of technology, however, must remain grounded in journalistic ethics, layered verification, and public accountability.

Participation in this workshop also reaffirms maritimeposts.com/’s commitment to continuously adapt to the evolving landscape of global media technology.

The mentor is Mike Tanapon Raomanachai, an expert from AAJA, San Fransisco-based.

By engaging in international training networks such as the AAJA-Asia Training Network, maritimeposts.com/ benefits from expanded insights, strengthened professional standards, and encouraged innovation in reporting practices and news presentation.

Amid the transformation of the media ecosystem, such capacity-building efforts serve as a crucial foundation for the sustainability of independent media.

The NotebookLM Workshop is not merely technical training, but also a space for reflection on the future of journalism—how technology can become a strategic partner without displacing the journalist’s essential role as guardian of accuracy and integrity in information.
