maritimeposts.com/ – Indonesia’s nickel downstream transformation continues to show real progress. Through the application of advanced processing technology, Indonesia is taking firm steps toward building a sustainable mineral industry value chain.
With the arrival of the first two autoclave units, PT Vale Indonesia, together with strategic partner Kolaka Nickel Industry, marks a significant milestone in the development of the Pomalaa HPAL Project, part of the Indonesia Growth Project.

The autoclave, as the heart of the HPAL process, enables the processing of laterite ore into Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) a key raw material in the supply chain for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy.
This initiative reinforces the commitment to mineral downstreaming, focusing on increasing economic value, technology transfer, strengthening national workforce capacity, and building a high-tech industry.
With a target capacity of up to 120,000 tons of MHP per year, the Pomalaa HPAL Project is part of Indonesia’s effort to strengthen its position in the global battery industry.
Together with project partners KNI, IPIP, Huayou Southern Construction Command, MCC20, and stakeholders, we are moving forward to deliver a nickel industry that is sustainable, safe, and provides long-term benefits for the people of Southeast Sulawesi and Indonesia.
