maritimeposts.com/ – Hasanuddin University (Unhas), through its International Office (KUI), organized an International Student Orientation for new international students of the 2025 cohort. The opening ceremony took place at the LPPM Hall, Thursday (Sept 4).
This orientation is mandatory for all new international students as it provides essential information regarding Hasanuddin University’s academic regulations as well as immigration requirements of the Republic of Indonesia.
For the 2025/2026 academic year, Unhas has admitted 143 international students from 22 countries. At this opening session, 48 students were in attendance, while the rest are still in the process of completing visa and travel arrangements.
Representing the Rector of Unhas, University Secretary Prof. Ir. Sumbangan Baja, M.Phil., Ph.D., in his remarks stated that the growing number of international students reflects global recognition of Unhas’s reputation.
“This significant number, with students coming from diverse national backgrounds, proves that Unhas is increasingly recognized internationally. We hope the students will adapt well, while also learning about Indonesia’s cultural diversity, especially Makassar culture,” said Prof. Sumbangan Baja.
The new international students are spread across various disciplines, ranging from science and technology, health, social-humanities, to agriculture. Some of the chosen study programs include Architecture, Nursing, Medicine, Information Systems, Management, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Cultural Studies. This distribution shows that Unhas is increasingly trusted as a destination for multidisciplinary studies, not only in health but also in engineering, economics, and social sciences.
